(PRNewsChannel) / Tampa, Fla. / An article that appears in the St. Petersburg Times profiles Congregation Kol Ami and its new spiritual leader Rabbi Raphael Ostrovsky.
Rabbi Ostrovsky is serving an interim role, replacing Rabbi Joel Wasser who left the Tampa Conservative synagogue in June to lead worship at Keneseth Israel Congregation in Louisville, Ky.
Ostrovsky is an experienced rabbi who led Congregation Beth Israel in Hammond, Ind. for more than two decades. He retired in July.
But now he's back at the pulpit for about a year in the interim capacity while the Tampa temple conducts a thorough search for permanent spiritual leader. Kol Ami selected an interim rabbi to help the congregation adjust with change.
"The interim needs to be able to relate to the emotional issue of a rabbi leaving, a rabbi who people loved and who was here for many years," Jaffe told the St. Petersburg Times. "Rabbi Ostrovsky has taken special courses to become an interim."
Ostrovsky will lead services, give sermons, officiate at life cycle events, teach religious classes and make rabbinical visits. He will also help the congregation in the search for a permanent rabbi.
