(PRNewsChannel) / Marshalltown, Iowa - She survived a stroke and helps hundreds of Americans receive medical treatments in China every year. But now Ruth Lycke is embarking on what may be her most important mission yet: to bring relief to the Chinese people devastated by last month's earthquake.
"I'm beyond angry and now I'm determined. Determined to make a difference as an ordinary person," says Lycke whose company, China Connection, normally helps foreigners arrange for state-of-the-art medical treatment in China, but now has morphed into a fundraising juggernaut working to bring direct relief to the Chinese people.
"Though the China Connection Foundation we can bring help right to the families that need it without layers of beaurocracy," says Lycke.
More than 68,000 people were killed and over 17,000 are missing and presumed dead following the May 12 quake. The sheer devastation and the lackluster response from the U.S. is upsetting to Lycke who has come to know, and grow quite fond of, the Chinese people.
"Just because this tragedy is not happening on U.S. soil doesn't mean that we can ignore this," says Lycke. "It is our duty as members of the human race to help or at the very least pray or send words of hope! I want to shout to all who will hear but I need ordinary people to rise to the occasion, respond and take action."
Lycke has set a goal of raising $1-million dollars to help Chinese families rebuild homes.
Online Notebook for Messages to Quake Survivors
The China Connection Foundation has also created an online notebook so Americans can leave messages and prayers to the survivors. China Connection's China staff and volunteers will translate the messages into Chinese which will be posted along with the English.
Lycke is a stroke survivor. She traveled to China to receive treatment in China and credits doctors in that country for helping her make a full recovery. That's why she's dedicated now to raising awareness about treatments available in China--not only for stroke, but for weight loss, hip replacement and a host of other medical treatments.
With the Olympics coming to China in August, Lycke says it's a race to show that Americans are behind the people of China."
Editor's Note: Ruth Lycke is available for interviews.
About China Connection: China Connection is about providing compassion, care and concern. It developed from the personal experience of its CEO, Ruth Lycke, who survived a stroke and went to China to complete her treatment. Now she seeks to educate Americans about the top medical treatments available in China-usually at a fraction of what the cost would be in the U.S.
