(PRNewsChannel) / Eagan, Minn. – Every night in this Minneapolis suburb you’ll find them rehearsing. They’re memorizing their lines, sweating the moves and taking direction as they prepare for their big day in the spotlight.
Some of the actors are 55 or older. There are children as young as 3.
The idea of bringing the young and the ‘young at heart’ together comes from the Intergenerational Living & Health Care, Inc., a not-for-profit foundation which provides housing and services to seniors, learning centers for children, and life-enriching programs that unite children and seniors.
“I thought it would be a really nice thing to do,” says Denise Gustafson, the foundation’s president. “We wanted it to be intergenerational and we picked Peter Pan, a play that kids and seniors would know and the public would instantly recognize.”
Peter Pan is a character created by the Scottish novelist and playwright J.M. Barrie. He’s a mischievous boy who magically flies and refuses to grow up. Peter Pan spends his never-ending childhood adventuring on the small island of Neverland interacting with fairies and pirates, and from time to time meeting ordinary children from the world outside.
Some of the staff at Intergenerational Learning Center, an innovative learning environment for children six weeks to eight years of age, have been involved in community theatre and are directing the play.
A few of the performers are from Intergenerational Learning Center, and a few of the performers are children of staff at The Commons on Marice, a senior living community. Both Intergenerational Learning Center and The Commons on Marice are owned by Intergenerational Living & Health Care, Inc. and managed by The Goodman Group.
The rest of the 29-member cast is from the community, selected after auditions.
The performances take place April 12th & 13th at 7pm at The Commons on Marice located at 1380 Marice Drive in Eagan.
Advance tickets are $5 with a food donation; $7 at the door.
Proceeds benefit The Food Shelf charity, a Family Resources Center that services Dakota County.
