(PRNewsChannel) / Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Looking for a stocking stuffer? How about the toy that looks like a third of a can of soda pop minus the sharp edges. The Toobee, a flying disc toy that throws like a football but flies like a Frisbee, has its faithful followers and is celebrating 35 years.
Ralph Williamson, 10-time world disc golf champion started using the Toobee 1981. And he’s been a big fan ever since.
“I always carry a bunch of Toobees in my car for those people who want one after they see us throwing at the park or at the disc golf course,” says Williamson.
But most people still don’t know about the flying can.
Instead of feeling crushed, the company is reintroducing America to the Toobee.
“You could say we’re the longest running unknown fad in the toy world,” says Greg Stromberg, whose company manufacturers the Toobee.
Designed by two aeronautical engineers, the Toobee weighs less than a marshmallow and is safe to use both indoors or out, is environment friendly (called America’s Green Toy) and is guaranteed for life. It is also lead free.
Being lead free is a big thing these days. Some of the most popular toys have been recalled because they were produced in China and contain lead. About 80 percent of all toys sold in the U.S. are made in China, according to the Associated Press. Toobee is made in Wisconsin.
Whether it’s throwing for distance, for accuracy or for fun or competition, Toobee is easy to throw. Just grip it and toss it like a football. It flies like a Frisbee.
The Toobee has been used as a training device by major league pitchers to practice control and curveballs. A college football team used hone players’ skills.
EBay Live showcased it in a keynote address. But so far, the company concedes the Toobee is still unknown.
“We think 2008 is the year for the Toobee,” says Stromberg. “It’s fun, safe and though 35 years old is new to so many people.”
And during an age when so many are overweight, the Toobee is a fun way for the whole family to exercise.
The company is donating 100 percent of the profits to select children charities worldwide.
