Dallas, Texas / Debt Settlement America (DSA) today announced the formation of a new public relations committee to be run by its own employees.
The formation of this committee comes at a crucial time in the industry’s history. Inaccurate representations of the debt settlement industry and reports of pending legislation from the Federal Trade Commission have led many to become concerned over the industry’s stability. What some people may not know is that a main driving force behind the push for legislation of the debt settlement industry originated from the debt settlement industry itself. The Association of Settlement Companies (TASC) is an internal watchdog group within the debt settlement industry. TASC has established a set of best practices to promote the highest standards of ethical responsibility within the industry.
Most of the problems associated with the debt settlement industry are directly related to those debt settlement companies who not only oppose official regulation, but refuse to adhere to the guidelines established by organizations like TASC. These companies tarnish the reputation of other, responsible debt settlement companies by exposing consumers, otherwise unaware of the option of debt settlement, only to the irresponsible practices of these unaccredited companies. Consumers looking to lower their debt through debt settlement should strongly consider seeking out debt settlement companies with TASC affiliation or accreditation to ensure they are working with companies who are committed to and held to higher standards of practice.
As part of DSA’s striving for excellence, DSA’s Legal Counsel, Wesley Young, has met with the regulatory bodies of many states with the purpose of establishing regulations for the debt settlement industry that promote responsible conduct. Young has also spoken as a panelist at several conferences involved in public and private sector education on the benefits of debt settlement, including the National Conference of State Legislatures Legislative Summit held in Philadelphia in July, and the Federal Trade Commission workshop held in Washington, D.C. last September.
The goals of DSA’s Public Relations Committee will largely mirror the same goals of TASC and the industry as a whole. The committee will review current and future public relations relating to DSA specifically, including press releases, company functions, community involvement, and the monitoring of positive and negative press. The public relations committee will also review the effects of each of their efforts. The main goal of the committee will be to aid in the education of the consumer and the credit and debt industry as a whole.
The committee will be comprised of employees representing the various departments within the company, including financial consultants, client care specialists, negotiators, administrators and management.
At the end of each fiscal quarter, current seat holders on the committee will step down, allowing other employees the opportunity to serve on the committee for the new quarter. This will allow for more diversity in DSA’s public relations efforts and will permit added opportunities for all employees at all levels within the organization to participate in company and individual growth.
“I am excited about the formation of this new committee within DSA,” says Gary LaRue, director of consulting at Debt Settlement America. “In my experience in several industries, it is always a watershed moment in a company’s history when all employees from every department can participate in new endeavors, especially those that allow them to grow and understand the ripple effect that performing their job has on the company, the clients, and the industry. So many times employees are not encouraged to pick their heads up, they are not encouraged to ask why and how can I help make things better. At DSA we encourage our employees to be engaged in every facet of what we do. This committee is just the latest example of DSA continuing its tradition of being an industry leader.”
