(PRNewsChannel) / Daily City, Calif. – This time last year Mary Carpenter didn’t know how she’d be able to provide the foster children she cares for the type of Christmas they deserve. The government-funded organization she runs, Mac's Children and Family Services, didn’t have the money.
“You always worry you’re not going to have enough to go around and these teens deserve goodness especially around the holidays,” says Carpenter.
But then something unexpected happened. No, it wasn’t a surprise donation or a visit from Santa.
It was an audit. The audit found money for Mac's Children and Family Services.
“We were overpaying Workers Comp,” she says. “But we never knew it until we had our books audited.”
The organization provides transitional housing for foster children who are between the ages of 14-18. And Carpenter says she now has an extra $32,000 that she wasn’t expecting.
At the advice of her accountant, Carpenter turned to Profit Alliance Recovery Consultants. Profit Alliance has auditors that comb through company Workers Comp premiums at no charge. If auditors find overpayment, the get it refunded and Profit Alliance shares in the new found wealth. If auditors find nothing, the audit is free.
“In the vast majority of cases we find companies way overpay Workers Comp premiums,” says Kristen Lain, President and CEO of Profit Alliance. “Businesses don’t realize they’re being overcharged until we tell them and recover the overcharges for them.”
That was the case for Mac’s Children and Family Services. The charity had been overpaying Workers Comp for four years.
Looking back, she says turning to Profit Alliance is one of the smartest things she’s ever done.
“What have you got to lose. If they don’t find anything you don’t pay,” says Carpenter.
She says the “found” money is affording her the ability to give the foster children an unforgettable Christmas—without having to beg donors for money.
