(PRNewsChannel) / Tampa, Fla. / Electric companies across the nation are raising rates, but there is a way homeowners can lower their power bill and help the environment, points out Jay Egg, president of Egg Systems. The Tampa-based company installs geothermal heating and cooling units in the Tampa and Orlando areas. Geothermal systems use the Earth’s natural heat to both heat and cool a home and it’s starting to catch on in the Southeast especially with an economic downturn and an uptick in utility bills.
“A geothermal system pays for itself,” says Egg. “Homeowners using geothermal systems can expect to see their bill drop more than 60%. They also qualify for a 30% renewable energy tax credit from the federal government bringing down the overall cost of installation.”
Geothermal systems do not rely on fossil fuels, making them eco-friendly. The system consists of a heating pump that is installed to a series of pipes buried underground or to a well system. A water-based fluid inside the pipes absorbs the heat from the ground and takes it to the pump, where it is converted to hot or cold air and sent throughout the home. With a geothermal system, no outside unit is needed. The systems require very little maintenance and can last twice as long as conventional air conditioning units.
“The efficiency is simple to understand if you think of a cave. The constant temperature of the Earth is 72 degrees and geothermal starts at that temperature…so, it’s easier and faster to reach a level most homeowners use,” says Egg.
Egg Systems has been installing geothermal units for nearly two decades but with the federal tax credit and a new eco-friendly mentality, the company says geothermal is becoming a hot trend.
