Local Nursing Agency Raises Standards for Surgical Care in North Texas
PRN Surgical Services receives accreditation from The Joint Commission for meeting exceptional standards in healthcare.

(PRNewsChannel) / Coppell, Texas – A local nurse staffing company has received the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ and becomes the first surgical specialty company in North Texas to receive the award.
Coppell-based PRN Surgical Services, a specialty healthcare staffing firm providing operating room nurses and technicians to Dallas-Fort Worth medical facilities, is among only a handful of companies in Texas to achieve this distinction.
The Joint Commission, formerly known as the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), evaluates the majority of U.S. hospitals and medical facilities and is the recognized leader in healthcare accreditation. Medical facilities are certified based on their quality of patient care and commitment to safety.
With the increasing nursing shortage, hospitals seek to improve their “nurse-to-patient ratios” by turning to agencies for contract nurses. Hiring and placement standards can vary greatly among staffing companies and creates concern for quality of care.
“Accreditation status promotes confidence and helps put everyone at ease, both facilities and patients,” says Julie Norris, RN, president and founder of PRN Surgical Services. “This is especially important in highly specialized areas of nursing such as the Operating Room."
Norris, a nursing entrepreneur, is also a certified operating room nurse with more than 23 years of experience. She says that to pass the accrediting requirements a medical staffing entity must meet rigorous standards for leadership, human resources, performance measurement and improvement, and information management.
“Certification demonstrates a staffing firm’s commitment to high standards of business integrity, patient safety and the ability to provide quality medical personnel,” Norris says.
“Facilities can be confident that our processes for verifying competence and credentials for our staff will meet or exceed the standards their own organization has in place.”
This means fewer burdens on hospitals, including shorter staff orientation-to-placement time and a reduction in days that vacancies go unmet.
“When staffing numbers are satisfied, patients will always benefit,” Norris says. “More nurses means more time to pay attention to details...a must when a surgical procedure is scheduled.”
