Seventy-six percent of parents say they would use the Web site to ask for prescription refills if that were an option, but 56% say neither their child’s pediatrician nor their own primary care physician has a Web site; 28% say they had no idea whether their doctors had a Web site, according to the poll.

“The poll shows that busy parents want physicians and dentists to have Web sites to make life easier and more manageable,” says Glenn Lawrence, editor of InteractiveDad.com.

In responding to the InteractiveDad.com poll, several parents said doctors who lack Web sites won’t get their families’ business.

“That is how I look for a dentist or physician—not the Yellow Pages but Google—and not just to get a phone number,” a parent said, “I only seek those with a Web site.”

New Doctor-led Association to Wire Docs

The new doctor-led health care organization, The Int’l Assoc. of Dental and Medical Disciplines (IADMD), says doctors may be lagging behind the times in the Web site department because they’ve been focusing entirely on direct patient care.

“While dentists and physicians cared for patients and focused on medical advancements, Web site technology has been put on the back burner,” says Dr. John J. Ryan, DMD, founder and CEO of New Hampshire-based IADMD.

Dr. Ryan says IADMD just launched a major campaign to wire doctors to the Web by giving them state-of-the-art, customizable Web sites as a perk with IADMD membership.

Eighty-eight percent of parents surveyed say they believe a Web site would help dentists and physicians interact better with their patients.

The survey was conducted from Oct. 11-15, 2007 on InteractiveDad.com.
