“This simply screams of the fact that people treated for cancer should be taking multiple vitamins and minerals and other nutrients,” says Dr. Whitaker. 

The cancer study published earlier this month also found that 80% of cancer patients develop some form of clinical malnutrition. 

“Virtually every that has evaluated the use of nutritional supplements in conjunction with chemo therapy and radiation have found that patients taking supplements did better and lived longer” says Dr. Whitaker. 

Yet, Dr. Whitaker says, conventional oncologists often advise against taking vitamins.

“We should be supplementing cancer patients with vitamins and minerals and we do just the opposite and it’s insane to me,” says Dr. Whitaker, who founded the Whitaker Wellness Institute in Newport Beach, CA.  He’s a proponent of using nutrition supplements to treat serious health problems. 

The study by the National Cancer Institute also found that treatment side effects like nausea and food aversions make it more difficult for patients to maintain a balanced diet.
