Dr. Gunawardane’s acclaimed career in medicine began in 1979, when he graduated from the University of Colombo Faculty of Medicine in Sri Lanka. Upon earning his Medical Degree, he completed his internship at North Middlesex University Hospital in London, United Kingdom. Upon relocating to the United States, he undertook his Internal Medicine residency and Cardiovascular Disease fellowship at The Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Buffalo. Dr. Gunawardane is dual board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
For his wealth of experience and contributions to his field, Dr. Gunawardane has earned the coveted title of Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He has dedicated his life to providing the highest standard of quality and compassionate care to his patients, and attributes his success to coming from a six-generation physicians’ family. When he is not working, Dr. Gunawardane enjoys studying history, religion, philosophy, and math, and also likes to relax by gardening.
