Jay has been in practice for over three decades and is currently serving as a Clinical Professor in the Department of Neurology, Division of Headache/Pain at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Jay’s acclaimed career in medicine began in 1980, after he graduated from the Feingold School of Medicine at Northwestern University Medical School in 1976. Upon earning his Medical Degree, he completed his Internal Medicine internship and Neurology residency at the Northwestern University in Chicago. Dr. Jay is Board Certified in NeuroRehabilitation, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pain Medicine, having been a founder and Diplomat of the original American Academy of Pain Management in 1988. He has also earned the coveted titles of Diplomat of the American Board of Forensic Medicine and the American Academy of Integrated Medicine, and a Fellow of the American College of Forensic Examiners.
Dr. Jay is a distinguished member of the International Association for the Study of Pain, the American Headache Society, the American Pain Society, the Eastern Pain Association, the Florida Academy of Pain Medicine, and the International Headache Society. He is internationally renowned as one of the fathers of pain medicine, and has practiced only headache and pain medicine throughout his career. Dr. Jay is the author of 5 published textbooks and more than 150 peer reviewed medical journal articles and textbook chapters, and continues to lecture frequently around the nation and on occasion, overseas. Dr. Jay has dedicated his life to his work, and providing the highest standard of quality care to his patients, and training to his students.
