Dr. Nicola Fabbri is a highly experienced surgeon who has been in practice for 20 years. His distinguished career in medicine began in 1988 when he graduated Summa cum Laude from the University of Bologna Medical School in Bologna, Italy. He then entered the residency program in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Rizzoli Institute, Bologna, directed by Prof. Mario Campanacci. During his training, Dr. Fabbri focused on clinico-pathologic aspects and multidisciplinary management of bone and soft tissue tumors, pediatric and adolescence bone malignancies such as osteosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma in particular. He moved then to North-America for further education and completed two CME clinical fellowships in Adult Reconstruction and Musculoskeletal Oncology at the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota, from 1995-97. After 15 years on staff at the Rizzoli Institute, he joined the Faculty at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in September 2012.
Dr. Fabbri is board certified in Orthopedic Surgery in Europe and undergoing board certification in US. He has become one of New York’s leading experts in musculoskeletal oncology and complex reconstructive surgery of the extremities and sacro-pelvic region. He is a renowned specialist in bone and soft tissue sarcomas and metastatic cancer to bone, including reconstructive limb salvage surgery, complex total joint replacement associated with massive bone loss, and management of benign and malignant musculoskeletal tumors in general.
Dr. Fabbri has lectured on musculoskeletal oncology across the world and is the author of numerous book chapters and scientific papers. He has mostly published on osteosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma and most of his work continues to focus on pediatric and adolescence bone sarcomas and adult musculoskeletal malignancies. He is the Director of the annual Course in Musculoskeletal Tumor Pathology and Clinical Oncology held at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Alongside his practice, he serves as Professor of Surgery at Weill College of Medicine, Cornell University. His internationally renowned expertise in his field makes Dr. Nicola Fabbri a very deserving winner of a 2017 Top Doctor Award.
