Jack Burkman, the GOP lobbyist/lawyer spearheading an independent and nonpartisan investigation into the Seth Rich murder, today sent a certified letter to Special Counsel Robert Mueller asking that the unsolved homicide be investigated for its connection to Russian collusion in the 2016 presidential election.

“(A)s director of The Profiling Project (TPP), the independent, nonpartisan group investigating the murder of Seth Rich, I am formally asking that the Special Counsel widen its investigation to include this case,” wrote Burkman in the letter, dated August 8. “The murder of Seth Rich may be the ‘missing link’ that connects otherwise incongruent events relating to Russia collusion in the 2016 presidential election.”
Last week, the Seth Rich murder case again dominated headlines on CNN, NPR and The Associated Press, this time over a lawsuit that alleged that President Trump conspired with Fox News to concoct a fake news story that it was Rich, a DNC operative, who leaked DNC emails to WikiLeaks and not Russian hackers to derail a possible Russia connection to the unsolved killing. That lawsuit was filed on the same day, where a dozen reporters had gathered to cover the re-enactment of the final hours of the DNC staffer’s life.
It was just the latest massive undertaking by The Profiling Project, an independent, nonpartisan group funded entirely by Burkman, who has taken a keen interest in solving the mysterious murder. The group re-enacted the shooting death, and the events leading up to it, to trigger clues that will lead to a killer or killers.
Seth Rich was fatally shot in the Bloomingdale neighborhood of Washington, D.C. last July around 4:00 a.m. He was shot in the back and nothing was taken. The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) says it was a random killing. But a report, released June 20 from the independent The Profiling Project, debunks that theory in an 80 page report.
In addition to the reenactment, and asking for the Special Counsel to investigate, Burkman has put up $105-thousand in reward money—the largest single contribution from an individual. He has also erected billboards in the neighborhood, created the website whokilledseth.com and filed suit against MPD, among others, to force the release of more evidence publicly, including videotapes of the crime.
In the letter, Burkman offered to help the Special Counsel by sharing what he knows and even testifying under oath.
“Insofar as you deem my input to be helpful, I am eager and willing to cooperate with your investigation,” Burkman wrote.
