He is a highly trained and qualified physician with an extensive expertise in all facets of his work. Dr. Roberts has been in practice for more than five decades and currently maintains a position as Professor of Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix, Arizona, and is also affiliated with Banner University Medical Center.
Dr. Roberts’ acclaimed career in medicine began in 1966 when he graduated from the Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Upon earning his Medical Degree, he completed an internship, residency and cardiac fellowship at the University of Toronto in Ontario. Then he was awarded a scholarship for a two year research fellowship at the University of California, San Diego. Following San Diego he was recruited to Washington University in St. Louis as Director of the Coronary Care Unit at Barnes Hospital and Assistant Professor of Medicine. In 1982, he was recruited to Chief of Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston where he remained for 23 years. In 2004, he was recruited as President and CEO of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute where he served two 5-year terms.
Currently, Dr. Roberts holds the Chair of the International Society for Cardiovascular Translational Research. He is renowned as one of the world’s leading experts in his field, and is noted for his pioneering work combining cardiology and molecular biology, during which he has discovered more than 60 genes linked to coronary artery disease. He has lectured internationally and trained over 400 cardiologists, one of whom became President of Ecuador, and also served for 15 years as a consultant to NASA. When he is not working, Dr. Roberts enjoys playing tennis and bridge.
