Popkin has been practicing for over 42 years and is a pediatrician currently working with the Consulting Pediatrics Group in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. He is also affiliated with Island Health British Columbia and the Queen Alexandra Centre for Children’s Health.
Dr. James S. Popkin obtained his medical degree with an emphasis on pediatric medicine, in 1974 from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, where he also completed a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Science Degree in Parasitology.
Dr. Popkin is internationally renowned as an expert in the treatment of cleft lips and palates, and he also serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of Victoria and at the University of British Columbia. He earned the coveted title of Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and is the author of more than thirty medical papers, articles and book chapters. When not assisting patients, Dr. James S. Popkin is a keen sailor.
