He later completed residencies at the Rambam Medical Center-Technion School of Medicine and at Hadassah Hebrew University Hospital in Jerusalem, prior to fellowships at the Alfred Hospital and Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia. Dr. Nates then went on to complete a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
Dr. Nates is a renowned expert in both Anesthesiology and Critical Care. He has received multiple awards, among them the Distinguished Service Award from the Society of Critical Care Medicine. He is the author of more than 200 medical papers and book chapters. Dr. Nates recently published the first Oncologic Critical Care textbook for Spanish speaking countries.
Currently, he serves as a Professor at the University of Texas, Deputy Chair of the Department of Critical Care, Director of Critical Care Research, and Medical Director of the Intensive Care Units at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He is also the founding President of the Oncologic Critical Care Research Network (ONCCC-R-NET). He earned the coveted title of Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine, and remains a professional member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Thoracic Society among others. His expertise and dedication make Dr. Joseph L. Nates a very worthy winner of a 2017 Top Doctor Award.
