The International Nurses Association is pleased to welcome Dr. Jennifer Aviado-Langer, FNP, DNP, to their prestigious organization with her upcoming publication in the Worldwide Leaders in Healthcare. Dr. Aviado-Langer is a doctorally-prepared advanced practice nurse in family health and is currently working in the Pre-Surgical Testing Unit of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York City.  With more than 21 years of experience, she is a specialist in medical/surgical nursing, family health, and a proud member of an NP-led and NP-driven pre-surgical testing unit.

Dr. Aviado-Langer’s diverse education background fortifies a well-rounded provider. Initially an Economics Major from Hunter College City University of New York, her background in finance has further enhanced her attributes and skills in the health field. In the early 1990s while visiting her parents in Toronto, Canada, she was offered a position at the province’s board of nursing– The College of Nurses of Ontario in Toronto. She accepted a position as an assessment officer for foreign-graduate nurses who desired to practice in the province of Ontario.  She decided to have an emic approach and enrolled herself in the 3 year nursing program at George Brown College in Toronto, Ontario and in 1994, graduated valedictorian and received the Marilyn Buist Scholarship Fund Award for Clinical Excellence — the monetary funds of which she put aside for further education. After a few years of practice in the medical-surgical unit of the Toronto General Hospital, she was offered a position as a medical-surgical nurse at Beth Israel Hospital, Singer Division in New York City.  Her quest for additional knowledge to better serve her patients prompted enrollment in the Master’s Program at Monmouth UnIversity in West Long Branch, New Jersey, where she graduated with distinction specializing in medical-surgical and family health. She accepted a position at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City working with ISK and Ranawat Orthopedics when Beth Israel Singer Division closed. Restructuring at Lenox Hill Hospital was an opportune time to review ways to improve practice and integrate research. More recently in 2009, she sought employment in a facility that would utilize academics, research, and practice and was offered a position at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in the pre-surgical testing unit.  Her quest for knowledge, continuous quality improvement, and most of all patient satisfaction was a great fit for MSKCC. Aside from accepting a position in the world’s oldest and largest cancer center, the support and motivation prompted pursuance of a Doctor of Nursing Practice DNP degree. completed at Monmouth University. She was the recipient of the 2014 Academic Excellence Award.

Dr. Aviado-Langer has a wealth of experience in many areas of nursing, in increasingly senior roles. She remains a professional member of the American Nurses Association, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
