Dr. Balter holds over 35 years of experience in his field and is currently serving patients within Port Jefferson Internal Medicine, Harbor View Medical Services, PC in Port Jefferson, New York. He is also affiliated with John T. Mather Hospital, St. Charles Hospital, and Stony Brook University Hospital.

Dr. Balter’s career in medicine began in 1978 when he graduated with his Medical Degree from New York University School of Medicine. He then completed an internship at Long Island Jewish Medical Center-Hillside Medical Center and a residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, before undertaking his fellowship training in General Medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center. Dr. Balter is board certified in Internal Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Care, and has earned the coveted title of Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

To keep up to date with the latest advances in his field, Dr. Balter maintains professional memberships with the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and the Center to Advance Palliative Care. For his wealth of experience and knowledge, he has been honored with numerous awards and recognitions, and is a Board Member at the Developmental Disabilities Institute in Smithtown, New York. He attributes his success to his passion for primary care and internal medicine, as well as the team approach he takes in palliative medicine. When he is not assisting his patients, Dr. Balter enjoys reading, hiking, traveling, and spending time with his family.
