Expert Diabetes Program Team Coordinator in Virginia Beach, Virginia Susan M. De Abate, RN, MSN/Ed, CDE, is to be Spotlighted in the Worldwide Leaders in Healthcare

The International Nurses Association is pleased to welcome Susan M. De Abate, RN, MSN/Ed, CDE, to their prestigious organization with her upcoming publication in the Worldwide Leaders in Healthcare. Susan M. De Abate is a Diabetes Program Team Coordinator with more than 38 years of experience in her field. Throughout her career, she has worked in many areas of the nursing field including medical/surgical, education, orientation, advocacy, professional development, writing, and business management. The primary focus for the majority of her career has been on diabetes. Susan is currently serving as a diabetes program team coordinator within Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Additionally, she works as the Sentara Outpatient Coordinator for Hampton Roads and as the Sentara Diabetes Prevention Program Coordinator.

Susan M. De Abate obtained her initial Nursing Degree in 1978. An advocate for continuing education, she went on to complete her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Phoenix in Arizona  in 2004. She then gained her Master of Science in Nursing Degree, with an emphasis on nursing education within the same educational venue, before receiving her Post-Master’s certificate from Indiana State University in Indianapolis. She is also a Certified Diabetes Educator.

Susan is recognized as a leading expert in the management of diabetes, and in educating people about diabetes and its causes. She has held roles of president/chair for EVADE (Eastern Virginia Association of Diabetes Educators), the local networking group of AADE (American Association of Diabetes Educators). She is currently Chair of the Coordinating Body of Virginia (state level of AADE versus the local networking group), and co-chair of the Virginia Diabetes Council. She attributes her success to inheriting her father’s work ethic, along with her ability to think outside the box. When she is not working, Susan enjoys making greeting cards.
