Jack Burkman, the D.C. attorney and GOP lobbyist who represents pro bono the family of Seth Rich, the DNC staffer who was mysteriously killed while walking to his home, today called on Congress to investigate the murder case and whether it’s connected to Russian hacking of the elections.
Burkman who created a website on the murder (www.whokilledseth.com) and receives leads and other information, this month will erect bus depot billboards in the neighborhood where Rich was killed.
Burkman says given Russia’s known interference in the election and the DNC email hack, and Rich’s job at the DNC, Homeland Security or Oversight and Government Reform committees should investigate Russia’s possible connection to the crime.
“Metro police have no solid leads. Seth was shot in the back and although police say robbery is the likely motive, nothing was taken,” says Burkman. “Based on what we know about Russia’s involvement in the DNC email hacking, Congress needs to investigate whether Russia was involved, associated in any way or responsible for Seth’s murder.”
Less than a month after Rich’s murder, WikiLeaks announced on Twitter a $20,000 reward for Rich’s murderer. But the official reward is at $130,000—$25,000 from D.C. police and $105,000 by Burkman. It does not include the reward from WikiLeaks.
“We will cooperate with either or both of the Congressional committees that look into Seth’s murder as we have been with D.C. police,” says Burkman. “We absolutely need to know whether Russia was also involved in Seth’s murder. And given all the information that’s coming out, it seems very likely there is a connection.
“Congress must include Seth’s murder as it investigates Russia’s interference in the U.S. election. Based on what I know, it would be irresponsible of them if they don’t.”
