Bernie is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work (BCD), and Fellow of the American Psychotherapy Association who currently serves his patients at two locations of private practice in New York, in Forest Hills and Bellmore. Additionally, Bernie is a forensic panelist and expert witness for the Nassau County Department of Probation. He is known as an expert in adoption psychology for pre- and post adoption issues for adoptees, adoptive parents, birthparents, and their families. Subsequently, Bernie has presented at many conferences and has appeared on national television regarding adoption issues. Bernie is a senior clinician featuring over 35 years of clinical and 25 years of Employment Assistance Program (EAP) experience in the treatment of a multitude of diagnostic categories that have encompassed depression, anxiety, compulsive disorders, addiction, stress, relationship issues, marital and couples counseling, divorce, self -management  including anger and emotional, enhancing Emotional Intelligence, pre and post adoption counseling, infertility, obsessive-compulsive (OCD) disorders, personality disorders, alcohol and substance abuse, grief, PTSD, and family issues. Treatment modalities entail individual, couples and family therapy. Bernie is a strong proponent of mind-body health, especially psychoneuroimmunology, i.e. the connection between attitudes, emotions, and relationships as they contribute to one’s physical health. Treatment orientation includes cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic therapy, eclectic treatment approaches designed to fit patient needs in, couple, family and marital therapy formats in addition to business, employee, and managerial coaching.

Bernie received his degree in 1974 from New York University. He is a Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work by the American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work, the American Psychotherapy Association, and the National Association of Social Workers. Further recognition of Bernie’s recent achievements has been his receiving the distinguished honor of being granted Fellowship status by the American Psychotherapy Association for practitioners who meet the most stringent of professional standards. Over the course of his career, he was an Instructor at NYU, Fordham, Columbia, and Adelphi Graduate Schools of Social Work, Instructor and Counselor at York College, City University of New York, and an In-service trainer at Holliswood Psychiatric Hospital (Holliswood, NY). He has presented lectures, seminars, management and employee trainings, and workshops in over 300 companies, many of them Fortune 500, throughout the United States on over 75 topics that includes addiction, work/life balance, employee effectiveness, communication skills, change, transition, and emotional management to managerial coaching, workplace issues and customer psychology.
