Freeman, III, MD, Adult Psychiatrist, to their prestigious organization with his upcoming publication in The Leading Physicians of the World. He is a highly trained and qualified psychiatrist with expertise in all facets of his work. Dr. Arthur Freeman has been in practice for more than 49 years and is currently serving patients as an Adult Psychiatrist at Pitts & Associates in Birmingham, Alabama. He is also a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Tulane University School of Medicine.
Dr. Arthur Freeman is a graduate of Harvard College, where he held a four-year National Merit Scholarship, and then received his Medical Degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. While at Vanderbilt, he completed a fellowship in biochemistry at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm and a fellowship in clinical hepatology at the University of London. He did his internship at the University of Florida and then received his residency training at Johns Hopkins Hospital and was selected Chief Resident. Dr. Freeman was also awarded a six-month fellowship to the Institute of Psychiatry at King’s College, London.
Following his military service in the United States Navy, treating prisoners returning from the Vietnam War, Dr. Freeman taught at Stanford University for several years. During that time, he edited a book: Psychiatry for the Primary Care Physician. Dr. Freeman was Vice-Chair of Psychiatry at UAB, where he was professor for 14 years. He then became Chair of Psychiatry and later Dean at the LSU School of Medicine-Shreveport. He also served as Chair of Psychiatry at the University of Tennessee School of Medicine, Memphis. Throughout his career in medicine, Dr. Freeman has lectured at many universities in the world and has conducted over 100 clinical trials for new psychiatric drugs while writing over 90 articles for the psychiatric literature.
Dr. Freeman is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry, and is recognized as an expert in the treatment of major depression and bipolar disorder. To keep up with the latest advances and developments in his field, Dr. Freeman maintains a professional membership with The American Psychiatric Association, the American College of Psychiatrists and the Southern Psychiatric Association, for which he has served as president. Dr. Freeman has received numerous awards and recognition for his contributions to the medical profession and field of psychiatry, including Who’s Who in the World. He attributes his great success to the support of his family and friends, as well as the good teachers he has had.
