The International Nurses Association is pleased to welcome Tonya L. Appleby, DNP, ACNP-BC, to their prestigious organization with her upcoming publication in the Worldwide Leaders in Healthcare. Tonya L. Appleby is a Nurse Practitioner currently serving patients at the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. With over 23 years of experience and an extensive expertise in all facets of nursing, Tonya is the Administrative and Clinical Coordinator for Advanced Practice Clinicians at the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and is in clinical practice as a Hospitalist.
Tonya L. Appleby graduated with her Associate’s Degree in Nursing in 1993 from Essex Community College in Baltimore, Maryland. An advocate for continuing education, Tonya then went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Towson University in 1997 in Towson, Maryland. She completed her Master of Science Degree in Nursing from The Johns Hopkins University in 2001. She completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2014 from the University of Maryland School of Nursing. She is now working on her certification in disaster management.
Tonya is an Acute Care and Geriatric Nurse Practitioner – Board Certified, and keeps up to date in the latest advances in her field through her professional memberships with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland, and the Society of Hospital Medicine. She is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. She has served as President of the Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland was instrumental in facilitating passage of The Full Practice Authority Act of 2015 which gave all Nurse Practitioners in Maryland independent practice. She also served as the Maryland State Representative for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the University of Maryland Community Medical Group. She says that her great success is due to her passion for excellence, creativity and a strong drive for wellness. When she is not working, Tonya enjoys traveling, and is a keen jogger, skier, and kayaker.
