When he arrives in Chicago this week, Michael Franzese, the former notorious New York mobster, the son of the Underboss of New York’s violent and feared Colombo crime family, will announce major efforts to help Chicago with its growing crime problem and to combat genocide and horrific beheadings of Christians in Syria.

It is, indeed, exceptionally rare to find someone like Franzese. Usually ex-mobsters don’t live to tell their stories. But he did and he uses it to help others.

Franzese is an internationally recognized motivational speaker who found God and has become a devout Christian. Regarding Chicago and its spiking murder rate and gang problem, Franzese hopes he can uniquely inspire members of gangs to reform.

He is working with Willow Creek Community Church which is embarking on a compassion and justice initiative aimed at those behind bars. Called “Prison Packs,” the Church will provide each of the 70,000 inmates in the state of Illinois a Christmas package.

“I am determined to use my former life to benefit anyone seeking inspiration and beat the odds so they can make positive changes in their lives,” says Franzese. “It was an honor to be invited by Willow Creek to participate in their Care Center Outreach. When I visited the Care Center, I was blown away to see the services it provides to prisoners, their families and those less fortunate in the community. Amazing!”

As for the genocide of Christians in Syria by the Islamic State (ISIS), and reports and photos of Christians beheaded when they refuse to renounce their religion, Franzese says he is in the process of organizing churches around the world to help save Christian refugees, one person, one family at a time.

“It’s difficult for any of us to fully comprehend the slaughter and horrific events happening to Christians in and around Syria, but I doing all that I can to help to coalesce the agents who can help,” says Franzese.
