The International Association of HealthCare Professionals is pleased to welcome Lisa P. Maestas DO, Radiation Oncologist, to their prestigious organization with her upcoming publication in The Leading Physicians of the World. Dr. Maestas currently serves patients at Rockwood Clinic in Spokane Valley, Washington. She holds over 17 years of experience specializing in cancers of the breast, lung, prostate, central nervous system, head and neck, gastrointestinal system, Hodgkin lymphoma, Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, sarcoma, skin and palliative treatments.
Dr. Maestas was granted a Master’s of Science degree in Health and Fitness Management at The American University in Washington DC and managed health care programs at the Pentagon. Later, she realized she needed to make a bigger impact in the world of healthcare and enrolled in medical school at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. She then completed an additional 4 years of training at an exclusive joint residency program at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston, MA and Brown University in Providence RI. She had the opportunity to present her research at the American Society of Therapeutic Oncology (ASTRO) conference.
Her training included modern radiation techniques including Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) and Gamma Knife Radiosurgery. She is board certified by both the MD (American Board of Radiology, ABR) and DO (American Osteopathic Board Radiology, AOBR) communities.
Her career has focused on making the cancer treatment experience more tolerable while at the same time meeting nationally expected standards. She has developed SBRT programs, participated in the development of a breast care center of excellence and developed departmental standards for patient safety. She currently supports multidisciplinary clinics and supplements her clinic with nutritional and complementary therapy information.
Dr. Maestas attributes her success to her training as an osteopathic physician and to her willingness to collaborate with oncology peers locally and across the country to gain perspectives and input. She sees patients as “a whole person”, not a disease, with a focus on both cancer treatment and disease prevention. She treats her patients with respect and as unique individuals taking into consideration values, goals and preferences. Her passion for people and making a difference in her community is evident. When she is not assisting patients Dr. Maestas enjoys hiking, camping, cycling, healthy cooking, art and volunteer activities with the Cub Scouts.
