With an upcoming publication in the Worldwide Leaders in Healthcare, Karen Jane Thomas, RN, M.NP, BSc (Hons), joins the prestigious ranks of the International Nurses Association. She is a Registered Nurse with 22 years of experience in her field and an extensive expertise in all facets of nursing, especially primary health care, aboriginal health, and health education. Karen is currently serving patients as Nurse Practitioner at Telethon Speech and Hearing Centre for Children in Wembley, Western Australia. Founded in 1967, Telethon Speech & Hearing teaches children with speech/language and hearing impairments to listen and speak.
Karen received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Community Health in 1999 from Robert Gordon University in Scotland, United Kingdom, prior to obtaining her Master of Business Administration degree in 2001 at The University of South Wales. Additionally, Karen holds a Master’s degree in Nursing acquired in 2005, and a Master’s degree in Nursing with a Nurse Practitioner Concentration in 2010, both from Curtin University. Furthermore, she is currently enrolled in her PhD at Curtin University, with a projected graduation date in 2017.
Karen maintains professional memberships with the Australian College of Nurse Practitioners and the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Federation. She attributes her success to being a constant learner, and perpetually refining and advancing her knowledge. As an advocate for aboriginal populations and the homeless, she hopes to challenge health issues that prevent these groups from achieving equality. In her spare time, Karen enjoys being with her animals.
