Ron Pousson: mobile sites and small businessesAt a time when 80% of internet users own a smartphone, it’s not surprising that roughly 60% of users are unlikely to return to a website they had trouble accessing on their mobile device, according to a Google study. That’s why it’s never been more important to make sure your company’s website is mobile-friendly.

This begs the question: What is a mobile website?

A mobile website is one that adapts to the size and screen of a mobile device. They are responsive sites that are designed specifically for smaller screens & the various smart phone devices – making the content easy to read and navigate.

“People conducting searches on their mobile device are on the move and don’t want to spend time trying to read and find content and contact information. Often these people are looking to make quick buying decisions,” says marketing expert Ron Pousson. “Mobile ready websites are easy to read with larger fonts and icons. The goal for any website should be for the searcher to have an easy time getting information and mobile ready websites accomplish that.”

With that in mind, Pousson has shared the top reasons why having a mobile website is good for your small business:

Traffic: In 2016 about half of all online searches are done on smart phones and the trend is still growing. “People have their Smart phone everywhere they go. Whether they are watching TV, are in a car, are at the beach, the moment that they decide to buy, you want to be at the fingertips of that potential customer,” says Pousson.

Lower Bounce Rate: If your website is not mobile ready, you will have a much higher bounce rate. People will leave if your site is difficult to read, and worse, 40% will visit a competitor’s site instead.

Ready to Buy Customers: The searches conducted on a smart phone are the highest quality of traffic. People using their smart phone to do a search are ready to buy. These searches are done by people on the go and making quick decisions

Professional Appearance: Your website, in many cases- will be the first impression that a potential customer has of your business. If someone finds your business on their smart phone, it will look more professional if your site is mobile-friendly.
