With an upcoming publication in the Worldwide Leaders in Healthcare, Phyllis J. Prier, MSN, PMHNP-BC, joins the prestigious ranks of the International Nurses Association. She is a registered nurse with 44 years of experience in her field and extensive expertise in all facets of nursing, especially psychiatric mental health and post traumatic stress disorder. Phyllis is currently serving patients as a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Burrell Behavioral Health in Springfield, Missouri.
Phyllis completed her practical nursing program at Brookdale Community College in 1972. In 1985, she subsequently became a registered nurse with a degree from Moberly Area Community College. As an advocate of continued education, Phyllis acquired her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Central Methodist University in 2010 and her Master Degree of Science in Nursing from Columbia University in 2014. Furthermore, Phyllis remains a professional member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association.
Phyllis was born premature and they didn’t think she would live; the doctors said if she did live she would be disabled. However, she is a fighter and has lived without any disabilities. In 2008, she was in very bad car accident where she broke her neck and back but still survived. She comes from a family of fighters. When her son returned from Iraq, he suffered from terrible post traumatic stress disorder and passed away, leaving behind two small boys. She became aware that there was a need for people in this field so she went back to school for psychiatric mental health and dedicated her work and specialty to PTSD in honor of her son.
