Known to many as the “Kelly Slater of Canines,” Booker D. Surfdog has been called many things in her storied career. Now, heading into the upcoming 2016 Florida International Dog Surfing Championship the bodacious bad-girl of the surf dog world is drawing even more legendary comparisons.

“Booker D. Surfdog seems to be more like Reggie Jackson these days,” says her rescued human, Pops Steinberg. “She’s like Mr. In and Out, you never know if she wants to hang up her retirement jacket, in this case a Paws Aboard life vest, or if she wants to sweep everybody from the outside in a championship.”

Held in Florida’s most international city, the Florida International Dog Surfing Championship is back in Fernandina Beach, a.k.a. “The Isle of 8 Flags,” March 25-27, 2016.

With Booker D. and a collection of the best professional surf dogs in the nation carving waves and shredding shorepound, the premier canine aquatic athletic league, DockDogs®, will be ratcheting up the action with a World Championship Wildcard Splashdown.

And if two days of gravity defying, gnarly canines jumping, swimming and surfing isn’t your cup of tea, then the American IDOGS Incredible Lure Chasing Challenge is sure to wet your whistle.

Even with a weekend packed with “furrocious” competition, it wouldn’t be Easter without a beautiful sunrise service from sunup until noon, led by Pastor Willy Jenkins. Following the service, the spring break weekend will draw to a close with a legendary blues act.

Finally, as is the case with every Booker D. Surfdog event, the surfing canine and Pops would like to remind everyone that the 2016 Florida International Dog Surfing Championship is a no kill event. The Nassau Humane Society, as well as other regional no kill rescue and spay and neuter operations, will be on site to promote “No Kill Florida,” the only message appropriate for an event of this magnitude.
