No conditions attached: Top lobbyist and syndicated talk show host Jack Burkman wants to be U.S. Speaker of the House.

Just hours after Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin) announced that he would consider making a run for U.S. Speaker of House if certain “conditions” were met, the top lobbyist in Washington announced that he is officially vying to the position, which is third in line for the presidency.

Jack Burkman, who’s also a syndicated radio show host and frequent commentator on local and network news programs, says he sent a letter this morning to outgoing Speaker John Boehner that he wants the position.

“As you know, this is a critical time for our party and our country. The Republican Caucus is in desperate need of strong leadership. Not only do I know my way around The U.S. Capitol, I also have a keen understanding of how Washington works and how to play to win,” Burkman wrote.

While the U.S. Speaker of the House post is usually occupied by someone who is a member of Congress, the Constitution allows for an outsider.

“At first, it may seem counterintuitive to select a top lobbyist and syndicated radio show host as Speaker. But I believe my unique skillset is exactly what’s needed at a time when even the GOP is divided,” Burkman said in his letter. “Ideally the new Speaker should be an excellent communicator and media savvy. I’ve been a commentator on news channels opining on the issues for more than a decade. I am a proven and effective communicator. (House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s unfortunate statements illustrates how vital good communication skills are.)”

In the letter, Burkman also went after Rep. Paul Ryan, his rival for the spot.

“It is embarrassing for the GOP to be shopping around for a candidate who is “willing” to take the position, or be forced to accept someone who will step up only if “conditions” are met. Rep. Paul Ryan should not need to be pushed or begged to accept a position that would put him third in line for the presidency,” Burkman wrote.
