Michael Franzese, a former lieutenant in the New York mob will be telling his story about going from a “made-man” to a “man-of-God” on July 22 and 23.

It’s no secret that America is fascinated with the mob. The movies, the museums, the memorabilia. But Australia?

Michael Franzese is the only former member of the mob who is alive and not in prison. And he’s talking.

In fact, Franzese is a former mob lieutenant who’s sharing the lessons he learned from being in the mob and leaving the mob.

Franzese is holding nothing back as he brings his stories about the mob life and how his time in prison saw him transform from a “made-man” to a “man of God” to Sydney on July 22 and Melbourne July 23 titled “An Evening with The Godfather.” A limited number of tickets are still available and range from $70.35 Australian dollars up to $508.73 with a special discount offer available when using the code: FTE20. A candid Q&A session will follow Franzese’s presentation.

“I spent 20 years in that life and at a very high level,” Franzese said in an interview with Australian-based “Breakfast Radio” in Newcastle. “I didn’t want to betray my oath and the decision to leave was one I made over time.”

A 10-year prison sentence and a devotion to his wife Camille, a devout Christian, helped Franzese leave the mob life behind for good.

“I was included in an article by Fortune that featured the 50 most powerful mob members. I was listed 18, just five behind John Gotti in terms of wealth and power. 44 of them are dead and three are serving life sentences without parole,” said Franzese. “I knew if I wanted her in my life something had to change.”

The former “capo” to the historic Colombo crime family of New York is said to be second only to Al Capone himself as the highest earner in the history of the mafia, generating an estimated $5-8 million per week during his height of power in the 1980s and 1990s.

Franzese now spans the globe talking about why he decided to become a “made” man, his harrowing mafia stories, how he became the target of the federal government and how he was ultimately able to renounce the mob and live to talk about it.

Franzese survived five criminal indictments, one brought on by then Manhattan U.S. Attorney, Rudolf Giuliani, a 10-year prison sentence, a contract on his life that, even today, has never been revoked. He is the only person of his rank to have ever “publicly” left the mob life without entering the witness protection program and lived to tell about.

He speaks to various groups but his passion includes speaking to children about the negative pressures of life and how to avoid making the wrong decision.

He has also been the source of information for various documentaries and other programming on U.S. networks such as the Discovery Channel, Discovery ID, the History Channel, National Geographic, iTV and Netflix.
