Datalogics, Renaissance Learning bring tablet functionality to Chrome browser application

(PR NewsChannel) / February 25, 2015 / CHICAGO

DatalogicsDatalogics, the premier source for Adobe PDF and eBook technologies, and customer Renaissance Learning, a K12 assessment and learning analytics company, today announced a Chrome browser plugin that brings eBook content to the web for the first time. The plugin is a major enhancement to Renaissance Learning’s Accelerated Reader 360 (AR 360).

AR 360 includes a sophisticated eReading platform based on the industry standard Adobe Reader Mobile SDK from Datalogics and now includes support for the Google Chrome browser on Chromebooks, Windows PCs and Mac computers. This latest addition to AR 360 empowers educators to provide eBook content on the web from the thousands of online content providers who use Adobe Content Server to protect their content, alleviating the need to deploy expensive tablets or other proprietary hardware devices.

“AR 360 represents an innovative extension of the Adobe eBook ecosystem onto Chromebooks and the Google Chrome browser,” said Greg Manuel, VP of Marketing at Datalogics. “Once Renaissance decided to leverage Native Client technology from Google for this purpose, our technical team worked hard to help make this possible. Our customers are bringing exciting new solutions to market, and we are delighted to help them in their efforts.”

“The importance of providing today’s teachers with easy access to a wide variety of electronic learning materials cannot be overstated,” said John Flora, Renaissance Learning’s SVP of Products. “When we looked at the technology needed to provide web-based access to eBooks in AR 360, Adobe RMSDK was a natural choice. It is the only open platform for digital rights managed technology. This is a vital requirement for our customers, who rely on school and public libraries to support reading instruction and practice.”

Available in AR 360 now, the plugin is fully integrated with rental books from Google Play for Education. AR 360 also honors all eBook permissions, including library and rental loans, and is certified for use both in Google Chrome browsers as well as Google Chromebooks.
