spirit crestEarlier today, Missouri governor, Gov. Jay Nixon announced the Missouri Home Energy Certification (MHEC), which includes the U.S. Department of Energy’s Home Energy Score. This is a new homeowner energy certification program that encourages Missourians to reduce their energy usage by making efficiency improvements and upgrades to their homes.

The MHEC, which validates energy-efficiency improvements while helping Missouri homeowners to cut energy costs, allows homeowners to demonstrate the invested value of efficiency features to prospective home buyers.

The Spirit Foundation, a U.S. Department of Energy Home Energy Score partner, will be providing the Home Energy Score in the state of Missouri and nationally through a comprehensive training program at local community colleges.

“We’re excited to help Missourians and Veterans increase the energy saving strategies available for homeowners,” said Jason Billstone, a U.S. Navy Veteran and V.P. of Operations of The Spirit Foundation. “From a financial and environmental standpoint, the program is a win-win for homeowners across the state.”

Spirit Foundation’s Qualified Assessor course will be offered in Missouri, beginning with Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Mo. for those interested in becoming Qualified Assessors. After completing the new community college course students will have a Building Performance Institute Certificate and will be a U.S. Department of Energy Home Energy Score Assessor, able to conduct Home Energy Scores.
