Philanthropist and founder of Global Village Champions Foundation Yank Barry, his wife, GVCF co-founder Yvette Barry and WWE superstar Titus O’Neil volunteered at the Trinity Café in Tampa to celebrate Global Village’s one-billion meals served to needy worldwide and Trinity Café’s one million meals served to the Tampa Bay community.
The event saw hundreds of individuals come to Trinity Café, located at 2801 N. Nebraska Ave in Tampa.
“We are all one unfortunate situation from being in a homeless situation,” said O’Neil, whose real name is Thaddeus Bullard. “To me, the true meaning of giving is in a person’s understanding of dignity. It was an honor and a blessing to be around such wonderful people.”
After Christmas is when supplies of food and resources are lowest at area shelters. In addition to the Tampa event, a GVCF’s ‘Christmas in January’ event took place in Phoenix, Ariz. last week while one more event is scheduled in Ottawa, Ontario.
Global Village Champions will give away a total of 350,000 meals and $20,000 in total cash donations for perishable food items and spices. GVCF has been responsible for providing more than one billion meals to needy people around the world.
“It’s important to remember there are so many people who need a hand here at home,” said Barry, who also donated enough goods to supply more than 100,000 meals to the Tampa area eatery along with a check for $5,000. “Trinity Café does so much good day in and day out and I am so glad that we can help them continue their amazing community outreach.”
