esquire-networkEsquire Network once again will turn its cameras on the grown-up world of Texas youth football, with the return of FRIDAY NIGHT TYKES. The critically acclaimed, 10-part documentary series, watched by nearly 8 million viewers in its first season, returns for Season 2 on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 9/8c.

With exclusive access, FRIDAY NIGHT TYKES follows five teams in the San Antonio division of the Texas Youth Football Association (TYFA) from registration and pre-season practices, through the playoffs and championships. This season, the action centers on the 10- and 11-year-old age group, where the players are bigger, faster and the game more explosive … and dangerous. Also in the spotlight are the changes teams have made to their training methods after several coaches were suspended last season for encouraging dangerous play and profanity.

But FRIDAY NIGHT TYKES is about more than just football. It’s about the choices parents make for their children, and the community that surrounds America’s favorite pastime. For many, football is a substitute family and a way to connect with their community. Throughout FRIDAY NIGHT TYKES, coaches and parents offer insight into why they believe the sport is important, what motivates them, and what lessons they believe children learn from this type of discipline and dedication.

But how hard is too hard? How far is too far? Is youth sports truly about the children? And at what price are we pushing our kids to win? FRIDAY NIGHT TYKES shines a light on these and other provocative questions about safety and parenting in a way no series has before.

FRIDAY NIGHT TYKES is produced by 441 Productions, Texas Crew Productions and Electro-Fish Films for Esquire Network. Executive producers are Matt Maranz, David Swartz and Eric Salat.
