The Texas Department of Agriculture’s GO TEXAN app is kicking off the New Year with an upgrade for iPhone and Android that allows Texans to stamp their virtual passport at local businesses committed to serving and selling locally-produced items. Your virtual passport also allows you to share experiences with friends on social media about where they can find the best of Texas.
Through the app, users can track visits to GO TEXAN wineries, farmers markets, pick-your-own farms, nurseries and florists, as well as share passport stamps on social media and make notes about the visit for next time.
“It’s no secret Texans love to buy Texas-made products whenever they can,” Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples said. “This is an easy way for those who enjoy local products to support Texas businesses and track their visits, simply by pulling out their smartphone.”
Features of the app include:
Locate it: Find a nearby business, complete with address, phone number and other helpful information.
Map it: See search results on a map and get directions.
Share it: Share the restaurant with family and friends through text, e-mail, Facebook or Twitter.
Stamp It: Stamp your virtual passport and make notes for your next visit about wines tasted, flowers purchased or dishes tried.
The GO TEXAN app for iPhone and Android is free to download from the iTunes App Store or from Google Play Apps.
