On Saturday, November 9th at Art Hill in Forest Park the Guinness World Record for the ‘most people doing somersaults’ was set by a community effort lead by The Barrelrollman Organization. For the past 6 years, Andrew Tessier, the face behind The Barrelrollman Organization, has been rolling around the world creating awareness and raising funds for babies in need through a fun somersault. Recruiting 865 people to simultaneously somersault broke the 835 person record placed in Switzerland in 2011 by the Cleven-Becker Foundation, an organization founded by former German tennis star Boris Becker.
Raising over $14,000 to date for Nurses for Newborns, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization providing a safety net for families most at risk, The Barrelrollman Organization asked for a $3 donation per entrant, raising over $4,000 at the event. The record breaking effort came with the help of St. Louis’ beloved sports mascots Fredbird, Louie, Rampage and Shiver, as well the St. Louis Rams cheerleaders and the Cha Cha Chow food truck. “We are so proud of the city of St. Louis for coming together, not only to break a world record, but to help babies in need have hope for a brighter future,” says Andrew Tessier, founder of The Barrelrollman Organization. “Setting the world record is a dream come true, but raising this money and awareness for Nurses for Newborns is even more rewarding!”
Originally started as a party stunt, Tessier has rolled the Forbidden City in Beijing China, historical ruins in Thailand, at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and at the Colosseum in Rome. His goal has always been to take a simple idea and turn it into something bigger, while putting a smile on people’s faces.
“Nurses for Newborns is blessed again this year with the time, energy and enthusiasm of St. Louis’ Barrelrollman Organization and its founder, Andrew Tessier. Our nurses continue to serve the community, saving and strengthening babies” stated Claire Devoto, Development Director, Nurses for Newborns. 100% of the proceeds from the event, as well as merchandise sales, benefitted the cause. Let’s make the difference in the lives of the babies, one roll at a time!
