The independent film “Snake & Mongoo$e,” opened in theaters nationwide September 6, and stars Jessie Williams and Richard Blake.

Due to popular demand “Snake and Mongoo$e,” the feature film detailing drag racing’s rise to prominence and the rivalry and friendship between the sports’ two biggest stars, will continue its theatrical run and expand into new markets starting Friday, September 20.

Beginning September 20, the film will open in Atlanta, Phoenix, Tulsa, Okla., Bowling Green, Ky. and New Brunswick, N.J., with St. Louis, Chicago and Joliet, Ill. And the Dallas-Fort Worth area following on the September 27.

The film will also add San Diego, Salt Lake City and Evansville, Ind. on October 4, and Las Vegas on October 25 to its list of cities.

Influenced by a petition posted on the “Snake and Mongoo$e” official Facebook page, producers were encouraged to expand the film’s reach after seeing the enthusiasm fans demonstrated for the film.

“It was very helpful,” said Ron Rodgers, President of Rocky Mountain Pictures. “In addition to the feedback we were getting from exhibitors who wanted to book the film because fans were asking for it, we got a real sense of the demand and the passion for it.”

The movie, which stars Jesse Williams (Grey’s Anatomy) as Don “The Snake” Prudhomme and Richard Blake (Dragonball; Evolution) as Tom “The Mongoo$e” McEwen and features Noah Wyle, Tim Blake Nelson and Fred Dryer, incorporated a unique petition that encouraged fans clamoring to see the film to send in their email, address and zip code in order to determine how much interest was in each city.

“The film got tremendous exposure on ESPN2 during their coverage of the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis over Labor Day Weekend,” said Rodgers. “That coverage sparked demand all over the country and we are doing our best to satisfy it.”

Rocky Mountain Pictures partner, Randy Slaughter, also watched the grass roots effort unfold.

“The car clubs, car show owners, track owners, car museums, and fans have all taken ownership of this film in their particular city and are doing their best to get the word out to everyone on their email lists so they don’t miss the film,” said Slaughter.

While Rocky Mountain Pictures considers releasing the film in more cities, fans are encouraged to go to Facebook or the “Snake and Mongoo$e” website to let producers know where they would like the film to come next. In the meantime, the film’s producers are ecstatic with audience’s response to the film.

“We are excited that the theaters we are currently in, keep holding us over,” said Robin Broidy, “Snake & Mongoo$e” producer.  “We know the word of mouth is building and the faith that the exhibitors have in the film is wonderful.”

Set in the heyday of drag racing and based on a true story, “Snake & Mongoo$e” uncovers for the first time on the big screen the compelling rivalry and breakthrough sports marketing accomplishments of Don “the Snake” Prudhomme and Tom “the Mongoo$e” McEwen—including a Hot Wheels partnership that proved game-changing for all parties.

The film also features Noah Wyle, Tim Blake Nelson, Fred Dwyer, John Heard, Ashley Hinshaw, Ian Ziering, Leonardo Nam, Kim Shaw and Julie Mond.
