medallian_squareD.J. Niko’s debut novel, The Tenth Saint, has won the Gold Medal in the popular fiction category of the 2013 Florida Book Awards, honoring the state’s most outstanding literature published in 2012.

The Tenth Saint is an archaeological and historical thriller set in the mystical highlands of Ethiopia, the Syro-Arabian Desert, London, Paris, Brussels, and Texas. The storyline alternates between a fast-paced modern-day plot, in which archaeologist Sarah Weston unearths an ancient prophecy about an environmental catastrophe, and a historical plot detailing the life of a Western man who lived among Bedouins and journeyed to Ethiopia, where he was sanctified for his contributions to the court of King Ezana. Through a series of surprising twists, the two plots converge to reveal that the ancient prophecy is unfolding in the present day. Caught in a deadly conspiracy to keep the prophecy hidden, Sarah Weston risks everything—her reputation, her career, her life—to bring the ancient secret to light and prevent the ultimate destruction.

According to the FBA popular fiction jury, “The Tenth Saint is polished, beautifully paced, and packed with fascinating nuggets. This book is proof that a story can have an original, even lofty, message and still keep the adrenaline pumping. We love the female Indiana Jones, love the surprise at the end.”

D.J. Niko is the pseudonym for Daphne Nikolopoulos, a journalist, author, editor, and self-proclaimed modern nomad who has spent the better part of two decades traveling the world. As a former travel writer and zealous adventurer, she has visited remote spots on six continents, many of which have inspired her novels. She has a particular passion for deserts and the nomadic way of life and has spent time among various tribes in Africa and Asia. She was born and raised in Athens, Greece, and now resides in Florida with her family.
