The NBC Sports Group’s Summer at Saratoga live horse racing from Saratoga Race Course continues this Saturday, 4:30-6 p.m. ET, on NBC with coverage of the 144th running of the Grade 1, $1 million Travers as well as the Grade 1, $500,000 Foxwoods King’s Bishop.
COMMENTATORS: Veteran horse racing commentator Tom Hammond hosts NBC’s coverage alongside two-time Belmont Stakes-winning jockey Jerry Bailey, and veteran horseracing analyst Randy Moss. Joining them are reporter/handicapper Bob Neumeier and reporters Donna Brothers and Kenny Rice.
THE TRAVERS: Nine emerging three-year olds will assemble for the 144th running of the Grade 1, $1 million Travers, each looking to for a run at end-of-the-year honors with a victory in the 1 ¼-mile race. Contenders in Saturday’s “Mid-Summer Derby” include:
· Trainer Shug McGaughey and 2013 Kentucky Derby winner Orb, who ranks third in earnings amongst three-year olds with more than $1.5 million in seven races.
· Trainer Todd Pletcher and 2013 Belmont victor Palace Malice; and Haskell winner Verrazano, who has won six of his seven races this year. Verrazano is the morning-line favorite at 2-1.
The broadcast will also include the Grade 1 Foxwoods King’s Bishop for 3-year-old colts sprinting seven furlongs on the dirt.
