Where:

Lowe’s Home Improvement Carrollwood

Between Fletcher Avenue   & Stall Road on the east side of North Dale Highway

Tampa, FL

What/Why:

There is no limit to the quantity of items any one can   drop off for recycling. A variety of companies will be participating in the   Earth Day event so that the community can bring and dispose of the following:

  •   Electronics, computers, printers and TVs
  •   Large and small appliances
  •   Documents to be shredded
  •   Batteries, cell phones, light bulbs
  •   Canned food for local food bank

Items, such as sneakers, small furniture and   appliances, cleaning supplies, and toolkits can also be donated, and will be   given to First Nesters, a non-profit organization that helps children who   have aged out of foster care.

Despite the   rain, as well as the threat of a downpour, the greater Tampa Bay community   arrived in droves for the inaugural Earth Day 2012 event. Through the course   of 5 hours, close to 500 cars along with people walking-up were able to   embrace being environmentally friendly by recycling electronics, computers,   printers, microwaves, cell phones, confidential paper documents, as well as   donating furniture, clothing, and small appliances. A 53-foot SEER (Secure   Environmental Electronics Recycling) truck was filled to capacity with 26,810   pounds of electronics, and Goodwill Industries received donations that packed   their truck. A total of 9,000 pounds of paper were shredded within the   confines of the Shred-It truck, a feat that had never been achieved prior to   Earth Day 2012. Ninety-seven cell phones were collected for recycling, which   were going to be used to purchase phone cards for American soldiers.  And last but not least, First Nesters filled   three pick-up trucks to the brim with donated items destined for children who   have aged out of foster care and are now on their own, for use in their first   apartment.
