Come join the Overtown Music Project and feed your soul with dinner and music. The Overtown Music Project, which works to revitalize the Overtown area through music and the use of historical landmarks, will host a jazz event to commemorate the magic of Overtown during its hey-day. Overtown was called the “Harlem of the South” in the ’20s- ‘40s, during it’s hey-day, due to the entertainment, music performers, and nightlife.
The event will take place on March 15 from 7-10 p.m. at Jackson Soul Food, which is located at 950 NW Third Ave., Miami.
The event location is as important to the Overtown area as the music itself. The Jackson Soul Food restaurant has served the Overtown area since 1946. It has served as a pillar of strength for the community where people can enjoy a big helping of home food for the soul. Typical soul food, such as chicken and waffles, will be served.
Musicians preforming live will include Joey Gilmore, Charlie Austin, Leo Casingo, Betty Padgett and Bobby Stringer.
There will be a $25 ticket, which will include a complementary beverage, a $35 VIP ticket that will ensure front seats and a $10 prix fixe dinner available at the restaurant. These tickets are available for purchase at our website http://overtownmusicproject.org.
