Alice Fredey uses birds as the main characters in her new children’s book, “And the Mockingbird Sang,” (ISBN 1475139314), as they have been a focal point in her life for many years. Since her son was six years old, he began to identify birds, a hobby that became contagious for the whole family.
As a mother and former educator, Fredey saw a children’s book as the perfect way to teach young audiences about birds, forgiveness and kindness. In addition to being passionate about our feathered friends, she believes birds are perfect characters as they live almost everywhere.
In “And the Mockingbird Sang,” Molly Mockingbird finds lost songs and wins a prize because she is able to sing any bird song. Lila, a little girl who lives near the birds, along with Gilda Goldfinch, Chip Crow, Oliver Owl, Steve Sparrow and Caroline Cardinal all come together to teach an important lesson on forgiveness.
“‘And the Mockingbird Sang’ educates young children about nature in a way they can easily understand,” says Fredey. “I hope to not only pass on my love of birds and nature but also the importance of being kind and forgiving to one another.”
Fredey’s unique story about songbirds can be used as an informational and education tool to children who are just starting to interact and understand nature and the animals living in their own backyards. She hopes her book will inspire her readers to take an interest in birds and listen to the beauty in their songs.
“And the Mockingbird Sang” is available for sale online at Amazon.com and other channels.
