"A Razor’s Edge: A Pilot’s Journey from Vietnam to the Airlines" by Robert D. Boyd

In “A Razor’s Edge: A Pilot’s Journey from Vietnam to the Airlines” (ISBN 147011724X), Robert D. Boyd reflects back on a colorful life that took him from an impoverished childhood in Houston to his acceptance into Army flight school and his outstanding service in the Vietnam War. The book concludes with Boyd enjoying the fruits of his lifelong efforts and a career with a major airline.

Boyd’s story begins in 1947 when he was born in Galveston, Texas. His father was an ambulance driver as well as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps stationed at Ellington Air Force base just outside Houston. When he was just 18 months, polio struck his father and confined him to an iron lung for a year, during which his mom struggled to raise three young boys. The disease left his dad a paraplegic but it didn’t stop him from successfully attending medical school, an example of undaunted perseverance that would stay with Boyd for the rest of his life.

He pushed on through high school, working menial side jobs to support his family before managing to get into Army flight school. He breezed through Officer Candidate School and was promptly dispatched to the jungles of Vietnam to serve in the war where literal firestorms awaited him.

Upon his release from the service, Boyd took up work as a commercial pilot. He quickly moved through the ranks, earning certification to fly luxury jets. Unlike most men who achieve such high-ranking positions, Boyd truly appreciated his success, having lived through his father’s devastating disability and his own brushes with death in Vietnam. “A Razor’s Edge” is the biography of a successful, wild man who learned what he was made of at an early age and went on to seize life by the reins.

“A Razor’s Edge: A Pilot’s Journey from Vietnam to the Airlines” is available for sale online at Amazon.com and other channels.
