Federal CXO Awards at GTRA Council Meeting

Today GTRA announced the speaker award winners for the Government Technology Research Alliance’s (GTRA) June 2012 Council Meeting.  Senior executives at the meeting voted for the best speakers and presentations on topics ranging from Technology to Drive Efficiency & Lower Costs, Infrastructure Modernization, Shared Services & Data Center Consolidation, Mobile Government & Federal Mobility Strategies, Cyber Security and Risk & Incident Management, Cloud Computing & Cloud Security and Big Data & Business Analytics.

The “Best of GTRA Award” was won by Bob Brese, CIO, Energy, for his keynote “The State of Federal Cyber Security – How Legislation, Collaboration and Leadership Changes will Impact Industry and Government.” Key points of this session include the importance of federal IT executives continuously being informed about the activities surrounding the cyber security environment and the need to use the correct strategies to become and stay secure. “The Future of cybersecurity remains complex and requires the whole of government [policy, technology, leadership and diplomats], industry and academia working together to achieve success” said Mr. Brese.

Sharing their insights and expertise, Elisa Cruz, Security Executive, FEMA, DHS; David Lingenfelter, Security Officer, MaaS360 by Fiberlink; Dr. Robert “Rocky” Young, Director, Outreach and Communication for Cyber Security, DoD and Wyatt Kash, Editorial Director, AOL Government were voted for the “Most Dynamic Speakers Award” for their panel titled, “Developing a Secure Mobile Strategy: Networks, Apps, BYOD and more.”

Travis Howerton, CTO, National Nuclear Security Administration was awarded the “Best Cyber Security Presentation Award” for his session titled “Modernizing NNSA with Cloud, Mobility, and Unified Communications”. “GTRA presented a unique opportunity to share DOE/NNSA’s best practices and lessons learned on how we are building the IT toolbox of the 21st century (based on cloud computing, mobility, social computing, and big data/business intelligence) to improve mission effectiveness and build a more agile, efficient, and smarter government” said Howerton.

Peter Tseronis, CTO, Energy was awarded the “Most Innovative Presentation Award” award for his speaking session on “Building a collaborative synergy between the DoE Mission & Technology”, a session that focused on the importance of communication in the federal IT community.

Peter Mell won the “Most Cutting Edge Award” at the GTRA Council Meeting for his speaking session titled, “Big Data Strategies for Government.” “Big data is more than just having a lot of data, it involves overcoming fundamental limitations of traditional relational databases” said Peter Mell, Senior Computer Scientist of NIST.

Brian Wilczynski, Director, Architecture & Infrastructure, Office of the DoD CIO, DoD and Mark Krzysko, Deputy Director, Enterprise Information, DoD, won “Best Architecture/Infrastructure Presentation Award” about sharing information securely through consolidation and using the cloud.

All of the GTRA Council Meeting award recipients receive a nomination for the GOVTek Government Executive Awards Gala, hosted by GTRA taking place February 7th, 2013.
