Tampa Bay Host CommitteeMore than 20,000 guests, including media and delegates, will be invited to the 2012 Tampa Bay Host Committee’s Welcome event, which will kick off the week of the Republican National Convention. The inaugural event will be the first of its kind in the history of the Convention. Traditionally, delegates and media members have been welcomed separately during two or more Host Committee events; however, these events will now be combined into one monumental occasion that will showcase all of Tampa Bay, including Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater.

“The Host Committee’s Delegate and Media Kick-Off Event for the 2012 Republican National Convention will be unlike any other in the history of past Convention events,” said Host Committee President and CEO Ken Jones. “The event will be a tremendous opportunity for the media, delegates and other guests to get to know each other and build relationships prior to the start of the Convention.  In addition, the attendees will get a taste of the Tampa Bay area’s history, culture and other local themes, which we plan to highlight during this event. We look forward to hosting an incredible event that will showcase everything Tampa Bay has to offer in a way that future host committees will constantly strive to outdo in years to come.”

The Welcome Event is scheduled to take place on the eve of the Convention – August 26, 2012 – at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. The invitation-only, cocktail-style reception will feature special performances showcasing local talent, innovative technologies with interactive elements and uniquely tailored design and décor, highlighting Pinellas and Hillsborough counties.

The guest list will include delegates from the 50 United States and its six territories, local and national media, Republican National Committee members, dignitaries and special guests.

Pinellas County Commission Chairman John Morroni and Hillsborough County Commission Chairman Ken Hagan were named event co-chairs.

“Pinellas County is thrilled to have the Host Committee’s Welcome Event located here,” said Pinellas County Commission Chairman John Morroni. “The eyes of the world will be on Tampa Bay in August, and we intend to show everyone what makes our area such a wonderful place to live, work and play.”

“I want to extend the warmest welcome to each visitor to Tampa Bay,” said Hillsborough County Commission Chairman Ken Hagan. “I am confident they will experience us as a true ‘melting pot’ community that is authentic, exciting and worthy of a return visit.”

“The City of St. Petersburg cannot wait to warmly welcome delegates, media and other guests to the Tampa Bay region in August,” said City of St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster. “It is our pleasure to be the first city in the Tampa Bay region to officially welcome guests of the Convention.”

“It is an honor to have the Host Committee’s Welcome Event at Tropicana Field,” said Tampa Bay Rays President Matt Silverman. “It is a great way to begin what will be a showcase week for the entire Tampa Bay region.”
