Public Relations professionals gathered in St. Petersburg Thursday to learn the art of writing press releases for social media. The workshop was sponsored by the Tampa Bay Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). Glenn Selig, founder of the PR NewsChannel, spoke to the group about the importance of search engine optimization (SEO) to help PR representatives convey their company messages with maximum impact.
Selig offered several tips on how to incorporate social media and SEO when writing press releases. “‘Twitterize’ your press releases and make them interactive,” said Selig. “Google will reward you.” Other how-to tips include:
- Embedding a Twitter headline directly into your press release;
- Using at least one keyword phrase in your headline;
- Using a different keyword phrase in your subheadline.
“I am already looking forward to next year’s press release workshop in Tampa”, says Selig. “Next year’s conference will feature even more innovative ways to optimize distribution for press releases.” The 2013 conference will be held June 25 -- 28. For more information follow @GlennSelig on Twitter.
