"The Life In Between: Poems/Poemas" by Sasha Lee Alvarez

“The Life in Between: Poems/Poemas” (ISBN 1453885927), a collection of original poetry by Sasha Lee Alvarez, seamlessly integrates photography with poetry written in English and Spanish.

Searingly honest and unapologetic, Alvarez’s narrative poetry catapults readers into a world of metaphors, sounds and colors. Written in English and Spanish, the poems reference everything from abortion and HIV to the sense of alienation particular to the post-modern experience in a world of emails, social media and gas guzzling SUVs. Polaroid images lend a sense of intimacy to the poems. The writing is rooted in the author’s upbringing in major cities where cultures, languages and values collide and compete for survival.

“My writing is inspired by life of New York, Chicago and Puerto Rico,” says Alvarez. “It’s about love and loss in big cities. It is an apocalyptic love letter deposited into the ocean of our culture.”

“Don’t you feel my heart beating miles away?” Alvarez asks in one poem. “From you by car is more than an ocean, a silent void between you and me. If I pour out my heart’s hunger to the loneliest stars in the sky would you look up and see my love shining above you, the blazing star, the lonely night.”

“The Life in Between: Poems/Poemas” is available for sale online at Amazon.com and other channels.
