Nerina DiBenedetto’s children’s book, “Chickadee Chick” (ISBN 1450540910), is not just for parents and children to spend time together or to educate readers about birds; it’s also about teaching children lessons in responsibility. She says “Chickadee Chick” is the perfect book to educate kids about the importance of paying attention and the pitfalls of unnecessary worrying. It also teaches them to identify the different species of birds. The book contains both fun and educational activities at the end for parents and children to enjoy.

Chickadee Chick lives on a farm. The young boys who live on the farm are responsible for tending to the birds every day. When he hears that the boys will be gone all summer, he tells the rest of the birds that no one will be there to fill their feeders. While the birds all panic as they figure out how they will get fed, Chickadee Chick takes matters into his own wings and flies out of the nest. When a surprise gust of wind knocks him out of the air into a lilac bush and essentially the arms of his caretakers, Chickadee Chick learns an important lesson.

DiBenedetto’s exposure to children’s books through her children and grandchildren gave her a greater understanding of how to bring the knowledge of nature and wildlife to children in a simple and fun way. She says her book will unite parents and children as they will enjoy learning about animals and spending time together.

“The book gives parents the opportunity to spend quality time with their young children and is educational as well,” DiBenedetto says. “Those are the moments children will cherish when they’re older and look back on their memories with their parents.”

“Chickadee Chick” is available in Spanish, and DiBenedetto hopes it will be an effective tool for teaching Spanish to children. DiBenedetto also states that a portion of the proceeds from the sales of both the English and Spanish versions of the book will be donated to children’s charities and wildlife preservation.

“Chickadee Chick” is available for sale online at and other channels.
